James Bain receives Chandler Award

At their meeting on January 21st, the nonprofit North Carolina Fossil Club presented Dr. James Bain with the 2018 Chandler Award in recognition of his significant contributions in education and outreach.  Of special note was his work with the Aurora Fossil Museum to distribute thousands of pounds of fossil-rich gravel, waste from the Nutrien phosphate mine in Beaufort County, to educational events such as “fossil digs” at schools and town fairs across the Tarheel State.

In 2014, the NC Fossil Club created the Chandler Award in honor of long time NC Fossil Club Member and Janus editor, Richard Chandler.  The award is given once a year to honor someone for their "significant educational contributions to the Club, or for aiding the Club's educational pursuits."

Congratulations JB!
