PurpleStride "WAGE HOPE" 5K Run/Walk

Several DMPI members were part of the DukeWINNers team that participated in the PurpleStride 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, May 16 to help make strides against pancreatic cancer. The team was named in memory of DMPI faculty member, Michelle Winn, who lost her battle to pancreatic cancer in 2014.

It is estimated that more than 48,900 Americans will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer this year, and more than 40,000 will die from the disease. It is the fourth leading cause of cancer death and has the lowest five-year relative survival rate of any major cancer.

Donations from the PurpleStride 5K, including close to $5,000 raised by the DukeWINNers, will help fund research grants, advocacy efforts, patient support, and awareness activities coordinated by the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.
