DSA Students Complete Research Projects

Kaitlyne Sheehan, Will Applewhite, and Max Rutledge, Durham School of the Arts seniors, spent the school year interning at the DMPI. Faculty members Rasheed Gbadegesin, Simon Gregory, Gentzon Hall, and Mike Hauser along with DMPI staff Jason Gibson and Shelby Strickland, mentored the students on their lab projects. Kaitlyne worked on identifying transcription factor binding sites in pancreatic islets, Will on the function effect of gene mutations in FSGS, and Max cloning genes associated with AMD.

The group successfully defended their lab projects to close out the school year. Will is attending UNC Chapel Hill next year, Kaitlyne UNC Willmington and Max Appalachian State. Congratulations to all three on exceptional work!
