Dr. Shah’s translational research laboratory focuses on understanding metabolic and genetic pathways of cardiometabolic diseases.  Her lab integrates genomic, metabolomic and proteomic techniques for identification of novel mechanisms of disease and biomarkers. Her multi-disciplinary, collaborative molecular epidemiology lab has quantitative and molecular components leverages large biorepositories to perform discovery studies using omics technologies, with subsequent functional validation for mechanistic insight. Her laboratory studies diverse cardiometabolic diseases with a focus on obesity, heart failure and atherosclerosis. Dr. Shah also works closely with the Duke Clinical Research Institute for biomarker discovery efforts in large cardiovascular clinical trials and is Director of the Duke Kannapolis research program which includes a large, diverse community-based cohort in North Carolina and the Project Baseline study. Dr. Shah also works closely as a volunteer for the American Heart Association, serving as Chair of the AHA’s Research Committee, former Chair of the Genomic and Precision Medicine Council, and an Associate Editor for Circulation. Our work is funded by the National Institutes of Health and the American Heart Association.
