Congratulations to Dr. Leanna Ross, Assistant Professor in the Duke Molecular Physiology Institute and the Department of Medicine, on her leadership role in a newly published American Heart Association (AHA) Scientific Statement, The Role of Physical Activity in Obesity Treatment and Cardiometabolic Health.
Dr. Ross served as Vice Chair of the multidisciplinary writing group that developed the statement, which was published in Circulation. The scientific statement highlights the critical role of physical activity in obesity treatment and emphasizes the broad benefits of physical activity for cardiovascular and metabolic health, independent of weight loss. The authors also provide guidance for integrating physical activity into comprehensive obesity care, including alongside bariatric surgery and emerging therapies such as GLP-1 receptor agonists.
This important work reflects Dr. Ross's ongoing commitment to advancing evidence-based approaches to improving cardiometabolic health outcomes. We congratulate Dr. Ross on this significant national leadership achievement and her contributions to shaping future clinical practice and research in the field.
