DMPI faculty member Rasheed Gbadegesin, MD, MBBS is one of two in the Duke University School of Medicine elected to the Association of American Physicians (AAP). They were inducted during the joint meeting of the AAP, the American Society for Clinical Investigation (ASCI), and the American Physician-Scientists Association (APSA) on April 8, 2022.
Dr. Gbadegesin is the Wilburt C. Davison Distinguished Professor of Pediatrics. He is also associate dean for physician-scientist development, director of the Office of Physician-Science Development in the School of Medicine, and a professor in medicine. The major focus of his research is understanding the critical pathways that are involved in the pathogenesis of nephrotic syndrome and ultimately identifying novel and non-toxic therapeutic targets for the treatment of this common kidney disease.
The AAP is an honorary medical society founded in 1885 by the Canadian physician Sir William Osler and six other distinguished physicians. Election to the AAP is extended to physicians with outstanding credentials in basic or translational biomedical research and is limited to 70 new members per year. The AAP includes about 1,200 active members and 700 emeritus and honorary members.
